Yu-Jing Zhang

Research Scientist of Environmental Health Sciences,  Mailman School of Public Health

Dr. Yujing Zhang’s research interest is in the field of molecular carcinogenesis, especially focused on understanding the roles of genetic, epigenetic alterations and their interaction with environmental factors in the development of cancers. His previous work includes developing molecular biomarkers to demonstrate high levels of DNA damage in those with environmental exposures to chemical and environmental carcinogens in subjects with liver, skin and breast cancers, their precancerous conditions and cyclin D1 gene amplification and overexpression and polymorphism in hepatocellular carcinoma. In recent years, his research work focused on epigenetic changes including promoter hypermethylations of tumor suppressor genes, DNA repair genes and other genes in liver and breast cancers and significance of epigenetic alterations in serum DNA for early diagnosis in high risk populations.
