Dale C. Hesdorffer

Associate Professor of Clinical Epidemiology (in the Sergievsky Center),  Mailman School of Public Health

and:
The Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center, College of Physicians and Surgeons

Dr. Dale Hesdorffer’s work is divided between studies of convulsive disorders and studies of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Recently, her focus is on the co-morbidity of epilepsy and psychiatric disorders through a case-control study of incident unprovoked seizure and epilepsy in Iceland. For the past five years, she has been the principal investigator of an NIH-funded study of the epidemiology of brain abnormalities among children with febrile seizures, and currently leads a relate subcontract for an NIH-funded study of outcomes following febrile status epilepticus. Most recently, she has embarked on a CDC-funded study of the incidence of unprovoked seizures and epilepsy in Washington Heights and Inwood. She has been the lead investigator of a Brain Trauma Foundation grant, involving several projects, including a prospective cohort study of outcome predictors after severe traumatic brain injury, a survey of compliance with acute care guidelines in trauma centers across the United States, and a quality improvement program for the acute management of severe TBI in New York State. She also serves as a co-investigator for an NIH-funded data-coordinating center for clinical trials in TBI, where she directs the data input unit.
