Steven M. Albert

Associate Professor of Clinical Sociomedical Sciences,  Mailman School of Public Health

Dr. Steven Albert's research focuses on cognitive impairment and its impact on health outcomes and subjective reports of quality of life, especially in the areas of HIV-related dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and, most recently, in non-demented older adults. Important products of this research include development of a performance test of medication management competency, analysis of an electronic medical record to track hospitalization in a community cohort of older adults, development of methodologies for investigating quality of life in people with dementia, and use of Medicare and Medicaid claims data to investigate outcomes in elder care, brain injury, and Alzheimer's disease. Most recently, he has investigated Medicaid-funded personal assistance care for older adults and has begun a series of studies designed to understand patient and family decision-making in chronic neurologic disease. Dr. Albert is principal investigator for two NIH-funded projects and has served as principal investigator in CDC and National Science Foundation projects as well as private foundation efforts.
