Gunjeong Lee

Associate Research Scientist of Sociomedical Sciences,  Mailman School of Public Health


Dr. Gunjeong Lee is a sociologist and feminist whose research focus is on gender, work, and public health. Dr. Lee is currently involved in various projects about community health issues including the Community Health Advisory & Information Network (CHAIN) Project, The Harlem Business Wellness Initiative Employees' Health Risk Assessment Study, and Mobilizing the Black Church in the fight against AIDS Study. She is also involved in research to evaluate medical treatment and patient care, such as adherence, inpatient events, follow up study of discharged HIV patient, in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Columbia University Medical Center. She has taught various courses on women’s studies in Korea and introductory statistics at Columbia University. Dr. Lee’s doctoral dissertation focused on investigating gender differences in social capital and patterns of service utilization among people living with HIV/AIDS, and explaining differences in service utilization using the concept of social capital. Her current research interest is to explain gender differences in service utilization patterns with geographical approaches.
