Daniel B. Herman

Associate Professor of Clinical Epidemiology (in Psychiatry),  Mailman School of Public Health

In addition to his role at the Mailman School, Dr. Daniel Herman is a research scientist at New York State Psychiatric Institute where he also serves as the director of research in the Department of Social Work. He has carried out numerous studies of homeless populations and is currently completing a randomized trial of Critical Time Intervention (CTI), a psychosocial intervention designed to prevent recurrent homelessness in mentally ill men and women following discharge from psychiatric hospitals and other institutions. Dr. Herman also has done epidemiological research on long-term outcomes associated with adverse childhood experiences, and carried out research on the mental health implications of the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York. He has received research support from NIMH, SAMSHA, and the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Affective Disorders (NARSAD).
