For more than 10 years, Dr. Muñoz-Laboy has been working in the implementation of research-based health prevention initiatives to reduce sexual risk behavior among high school and college students in Puerto Rico (1994-1996), peri-urban youth in Sri Lanka (1997), inner city youth in Hartford, Connecticut (1996-1998), and Latino men who have sex with men (MSM) in New York (1998-2007). Dr. Muñoz-Laboy dissertation research focused on bisexuality and HIV risk among Latino men in New York. Since then, his research has focused on the cultural and structural dimensions of HIV and sexual health-related risks among a number of different ethnic and sexual minority urban populations in the United States and internationally. His areas of research and program design include: sexual health, bisexuality, masculinity, street culture, sexual cultures, and examining the impact of the intersections of gender, race/ethnic and class power inequalities in young men’s health.
