and:
Department of Pediatrics, College of Physicians and Surgeons (home dept.)

Dr. David Evans' main focus of research is to identify effective methods for teaching patients and healthcare professionals about asthma. Published extensively in this area, he has participated in the development of three programs currently being implemented nationwide. These include Open Airways for Schools health education program for school children with asthma; the Physician Asthma Care Education program for pediatricians in private practice; and the Creating a Medical Home for Asthma program, developed for pediatric clinic staff. Dr. Evans has served on several federal and international expert panels that developed guidelines for diagnosis and management of asthma, for patient and professional education, and for the cost and financing of asthma care. He is currently studying the efficacy of written treatment plans to help patients manage their asthma, the effectiveness of an asthma education program for high school students with asthma, and the effectiveness of integrated pest management in reducing pests and allergen levels in New York City public housing.
